Meet your Team Leader at the airport; travel to housing, approximately 1 to 2 hours from the Philip Goldson Airport depending on area assigned.
Discuss tomorrow’s agenda
Morning: “Welcome to Belize” Orientation with Team Leader, share information about Belize, ISL policies and trip guidelines
Afternoon: Medical Orientation (discuss taking vital signs and patient histories, patient examination, house visits, community triage, Health Care System in Belize)
Medical Spanish Seminar (for house visits, get assigned topics for Tropical Disease Presentations)
Evening: Dinner out
Dance Class! (Learn about the cultural music of Belize)
Group Reflection; discuss tomorrow’s agenda
Morning/Afternoon: House Visits in Community 1 (Team splits into groups and visit homes in an ISL partner community letting them know that we are providing free health care, assessing living conditions and selecting people with acute problems that can be treated in our clinics. Common acute health concerns include lice, scabies, intestinal parasites, diarrhea, and acute childhood illnesses. This will allow volunteers to also correlate lifestyle with disease and share relevant educational hand outs)
Visit to Medicinal Trail and Conservation Project depending on area of service
Evening: Dinner out
Learning session: Spanish for Clinic
Group Reflection; discuss tomorrow’s agenda
Prepare Tropical Disease Presentations (volunteers prepare an interactive presentation on a tropical disease assigned by the local physician)
Morning: Set up field clinic in Community 1; Pharmacology Seminar by the pharmacist before clinic
Afternoon: Continue Community Clinic (Volunteers rotate through stations performing patient interviews, taking vitals, and helping in the pharmacy. They will also have the opportunity to participate in/ observe the examination/diagnosis/treatment process where appropriate
Tropical Disease Presentations and Group Reflection; discuss tomorrow’s agenda
Morning: Community Clinic Day 2 (Volunteers rotate through stations performing patient interviews, taking vitals, and helping in the pharmacy. They will also have the opportunity to participate in/ observe the examination/diagnosis/treatment process where appropriate
Afternoon: Health education session at local school or Children’s Home (talk about importance/ demonstrate proper techniques for brushing teeth, washing hands, healthy eating habits, etc.)
Evening: Dinner
Suture Class (Volunteers learn basic suture techniques)
Group Reflection; discuss tomorrow’s agenda
Community Day
Morning: Service work in Community eg. Painting the inside of the health post; Cleaning and minor repairs of playground/ school; Beautification project at school or resource centre
Afternoon: Spend time in the community playing sports with kids, piñata party

Option to go Cave Tubing and Zip Line (Volunteers Pay $50 per person, lunch included)
Or Visit Archaeological site/ Inland Blue Hole & Hike to nearby caves (Activities will depend on area team is serving)
